Message from Susie Vaks at Google

Hello CCC&TI Students!

We are very proud of our graduating students from our CCC&TI programs and
are excited about the opportunities that are presented to them because of
the education they have received. So far our graduating classes with the
new skills that they have learned have been able to get promotions/raises
with their current positions, offered positions at CCC to teach our classes
and have the options to pursue higher levels of education to get more
training and knowledge. To add to the all the wonderful opportunities
available to our students we are happy to announce that because of the
skills our students have learned Google has hired some of our top students
from our summer and fall classes.

Through Google's rigorous interview process that is taking in candidates
from all of the country a batch of our students who applied from CCC&TI fit
their needs culturally as well technically. We know there might be some
disappointed folks out there but we don't want anyone to be discouraged.
This is only one of the many opportunities and experiences that will grow as
each student pursues their education goals to further the knowledge that
will ultimately make them more competitive in the job marketplace.
If you would like to apply to other jobs at Google please make sure you
continuously check their website and look for new jobs posted at
http://www.google.com/datacenter/lenoir/jobs.html. If you would like to re-apply and if you feel your skills might meet the requirements for the posted job descriptions then feel free to apply online.

We look forward to bring more opportunities to you and a successful future
for everyone!

WorkKeys Email from Dana

Donna:

I received an email back from Pam Gobel. Pam already sends me the National CRC seal to put on the certificates. I would encourage students to register on www.myworkkeys.com for employers to verify their scores but they are not required to order a National Certificate. Students may call WorkKeys at 1-866-760-1228 with questions. Thanks.

Message from Google

Hello Students!
We are very excited to let everyone know that Google will again be contacting students to go through phone interviews but this time for the Data Technician Assistant position. Yes, as you all are thinking this is earlier than what Google communicated but it is good news for us that they could be looking for people sooner than 2008. Now the interviews for those who have been chosen will be happening only by phone so prepare those communication and interview skills we taught you! Google will be in touch with everyone in the next month letting everyone know their status for those who have completed the course.

Good luck!

Updates

Congratulations Graduates!!!

We are very proud of you all. If you would like a DVD of the ceremony, please drop off a CD to me (you can leave it at the front desk) and I will get a copy made for you.

I saw many of you at the Directions Event. I hope you got some great information from the employers. I heard some of you had some concerns after you talked to Google and there were questions as to how long your resumes would be kept by Google for consideration. Your resumes will be considered for openings for positions as they come available. You will not need to reapply. Please let me know if you have any other questions and I will be glad to address them.

We met with the Google reps after the event and we are very excited about the future of this partnership.

If you have updates to your resume, please let me know and I will forward the updated resume to Google.

I am working on additional training or Module III. If you have suggestions, please let me know.

Have a great day.

Hello

Happy Sunday!

Please let me address a concern some of you have expressed because you are required to change classrooms. Unfortunately, due to the need to share the computer lab in F221 with curriculum courses, it is necessary for us to alternate the use of the room. I would love to have all the classes in one room, but unfortunately, we don't have a room that is free every day that has the computer equipment we need. As you move from one module to the next, it will be necessary to change rooms. I am sorry for the confusion. The Monday night Linux course will meet in F218.

If you have been contacted, by an employer, please be sure to notify me. It is necessary that we have this information to track the success of the course.

I hope you all have a great week.

Google Update

Hello CCC&TI Students!

Here is an update on what's happening at Google.
As you all know Google is moving ahead as fast as they can to try to open the doors of the new data center in Lenoir. You also might guess that an opening this large always comes with a few minor changes and developments as well.

Here is some information you might find useful.

What Google is trying to do is build a solid infrastructure first before most of the hiring begins next year. So that means they are focused on hiring lead infrastructure positions before bringing in all other hires next year (this is common practice for all of their data centers). The IT Institute has been focused on entry level positions which will be hired next year.

The great thing that is happening now is that Google has already reviewed the packets for
folks that have completed the IT Institute this summer. What they noticed is some
of the students have had a lot more experience than the assistant positions needs and are looking at them for more lead roles. This doesn't mean that they won't be considered for assistant positions as well but they want to make sure they find the best possible fit for students here at CCC&TI. We are excited that students have already received emails and phone calls to start getting the ball rolling in pursuing their careers. Remember this is just the first step in many you will be taking towards as successful future in the world of technology!

Thanks.
Donna Bean & Susie Vaks, Sr. Technical Program Manager Google Inc.

Update

Hey guys,

Thanks for all of you who have completed the survey. If you haven’t completed the survey, please take a minute to let us know what you think.

We have scheduled the Saturday sections with Errol. We will meet from 9:00 to 1:00 September 8th, 15th and 22nd. We could have the classes until 3:30 and finish up in three Saturdays if the group prefers. If we only go until 1:00, I will let you know the dates for October later. Since these are additional hours, you will still be able to graduate on 10/8 even if we haven’t finished the final 20 hours. Just send me an email to let me know what you prefer to do as far as the time (dbean@cccti.edu).

Both evening classes and the day class that met from 8:00 to 10:00 are invited to attend these sessions. If the first day class wants to come, they are welcome too. Tentatively, 9/22 will be held in Errol’s class at Watauga High School.

I sent in the resumes I had today around 7:00 p.m. Yeah!!! I am still missing a few resumes. If you haven’t sent in your resume, please send it to me tomorrow and I will fax it in to Google.

Have a great day.
:)

Newletter

Hi,

I wanted to give you an update on happenings with the IT Institute.

I need the resumes for the first two day and evening classes by 8/15. Please make sure you have had Dana Glenn review your resume. The ones I have so far look good.

We are planning a Directions and IT Job Fair on 10/9 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Gym.

Graduation is set for 10/8 at 7:00 p.m. at the Civic Center. Please let me know if you plan to attend.

We are still working with Errol to schedule the dates for the final 20 hours. I will post the schedule as soon as I know.

I have had some feedback concerning students satisfaction with the IT Institute. To make sure we have an understanding of your feelings about the success of the institute, please complete a survey at Click Here to take survey.

If you have pictures you would like for me to post, please send them to dbean@cccti.edu. Have a great day!
